WHAT IS CORFLUTE?

Also called corrugated plastic or corriboard it is a twin-wall plastic-sheet products produced from high-impact polypropylene resin with a similar make-up to corrugated fiberboard. It is a light-weight tough material which can easily be cut with a utility knife. Manufacturers typically offer a wide variety of colours, thicknesses (quite commonly 3, 4, 5 mm), and weight (measured in grams per square meter, or GSM).

Some corflute signs are manufactured using lower quality pigments and may only last 6 months in outdoor conditions.  This can still be suitable for quick campaigns, such as election campaigns.

CANsign usually opts for a quality product which is designed to last about 24 months or more in the harsh outdoors with depth, texture and colour pigments.  Some of our clients report their sign is still looking new after 3 years.

IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE TO CORFLUTE?

Being environmentally friendly, and climate fighters, we know the dilemma in using plastic – We now have an alternative.

    • 100% biodegradable paper

    • FSC certified, recyclable and biodegradable

    • up to 60% post-consumer recycled content

    • water-resistant (but not water-proof)

    • for indoor & outdoor advertising

CAN I RECYCLE MY CORFLUTE SIGN?

The corflute is made of Polypropylene (PP) and specific councils and some commercial enterprises recover them and turn them into new products. e.g. Corex plastics in Melbourne.

Consider approaching your council to ask for the same options. We are actively researching options in other regions and cities and as we find more recycling and other reuse options we will keep you posted. For example,  the NSW Palerang Council were recycling corflute before the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council amalgamation, however at the moment they accept polypropylene but not in the form of corflute. This may change.

HOW DO I HANG MY YARD SIGN?

Your CANsign is made from Corflute and should last years outdoors in UV light.

The SMALL and MEDIUM sizes usually have 4 eyelets.
The LARGE ones may have 8 or more eyelets.

CANsign signs can be posted  with a set of cable ties.  Cable ties come in two styles, internal (white) and external  (black). CANsign would recommend tie-wire as an alternative to plastic ties.

Consider the best position for passing traffic and if you are in a heavy traffic zone consider hanging it higher up away from threats (animals etc.). Front fence, gates and balconies are ideal.

WHAT IF I AM CHALLENGED ABOUT MY SIGN FROM A CLIMATE DENIER?

This easy to read article in the ABC analysis news is a very insightful read that describes the language to use when talking climate change and how to understand the different groups of people that hear it and why some listen, and some don’t. Deniers are 6% of the population and can be loud and sometimes bombastic, but people like yourself are in the 82% that want some immediate action. These figures were taken BEFORE the terrible fires of last summer, so these numbers have most likely changed.

Sometimes it feels that we might be sitting in a cluster of climate deniers but by hanging out a CANsign or two you are helping to take the opportunity to shift opinions. Farmers and very ordinary day folk are now doing what you are doing and making a stand on global heating. Even 80+ year old farmers are now openly admitting that they have had it wrong and now believe the science. These people are the strongest of all and should be highly praised for having the courage to change their mind and openly tell their friends: they are the big influencers. The key to this change is the wording to use as per Rebecca’s article.

As this article from Rebecca Huntley explains people can be grouped into 6 categories
